I am considering central file location (without buying servers etc etc) so I can access certain work docs (mostly word and pdf files) from home / office / phone and maintain integrity of auditable paperwork (ie avoid duplicate copies). I am also considering this for secure back-up facility. Does anyone have any opinions or other thoughts about sharepoint or similar systems.

binky,

Wait for the Apple fanboy onslaught later ;) , though he does have some good suggestions.

There are other systems, Ubuntu1, there is the space you get with Windows Live too.

There are quite a few, but AFAIK, NONE of them guarantee your data integrity!

I simply keep stuff I want to share with my other media in a shared folder on my desktop,

that way the missus can access it from the laptop, or if its a movie we can access it via the Wii etc,

Not heard of any of these before - bigest problem (and strength) with internet is it's shear diversity. I am alittle unhappy with using unknown entities, I know microsfot aren't popular, but at least i know who they are!!

I use Dropbox. It's brilliant as it syncs all the computers you use when you log on - so the data is stored locally as well as in the cloud. It's free for up to 2Gs - and unless you're putting videos on it that is a lot of storage!
