Can someone tell me if its incorrect to mount a Consumers Unit onto a wooden board which is inturn mounted to the wall. Something in my head is telling me that you cannot mount a cu on a wooden board??

Benjo you are confused with the old wylex boards with a wooden back (forming part of the enclosure)

Sometimes it's best to mount wood on the wall then mount cu to wood as if wall is out you may have trouble getting lid on cu if it's been screwed against wall tight. I use mdf for this usually. Hth

Nothing wrong with mounting on wood. Is a good way of getting a tidy result if the wall is wonky (as they usually are in cellars).

Just ask yourself: What would you mount on if the wall was wooden?

The ceiling ???? :slap

Furthermore; if you use 2 pieces of batten either side of the board; all cabling can come behind board, through the back of CU - no cutting of top surface; then trying to reinstate IP rating ;)

You might be thinking of the regs under the section on thermal effects, but a CCU won't get hot so can go on a normally combustible material.
