I have been asked to move CCU. It is skeleton board in mantel unit. In that box are coming supply cables. Could you give me an idea whom should I contact to move that supply cables, how much does it costs and how much does it takes.

I never done it before.

Thanks

You will need to contact your area Distribution Network Operator (DNO)

What is a mantel unit ? :C
My colleague calls as mantel unit the big metal box where is installed skeleton consumer unit. I can attach photo.

So thats a mantel unit , I'd call it a meter cupboard TBH. Why is the board a "skeleton" ? Looks like a normal Wylex CU . I'm only saying this because the OP threw me a little . For a price to move the supply you need to contact the local network .

Mantel is the name of the manufacturer of these old metal supply boxes. They were installed into virtually every council house from the late 1940's up until the late 50's early 60's.

Very little room in those Skeleton CU's at the top of those boxes. I think Crabtree made a replacement split RCD skeleton for these panels back in the 80's, .....As you can imagine, even less room to dress the circuit cables when they were installed.... I know because i rewired my parents house using one of those split CU's .....

It's called a ''Skeleton CU, because only the the breaker holder arrangement is incorporated in these boxes. The CU cover (as such) is part of these old boxes ...

Haha, ....that photo brought back memories of that rewire..... Thanks for that!!!...lol!!!

hi all

it is my understanding that you are not allowed to install cu in meter box. am i right? when working for dno we would tell local sparkys they couldn't do it.

Normally that would be true, but as this set up was designed for inclusion of the Consumer Unit then I think you will find it is not considered to be an External Meter box but can be treated as any internal cupboard where a Meter is installed.

If you are keeping the CU in that position then why do you need DNO to move Tails?

Just wait untill credit runs out on that Meter and supply will be disconnected to allow safe replacement of the CU.

;)

These were a purpose made supply box. The CU was basically in a sealed compartment at the top of these boxes. In fact they could of done with having a lot more room for the CU there was plenty of space in those recessed boxes.....

Deke, ...Yes that's what i meant, ...the CU frame (Skeleton)....

I have done a consumer unit change on one of these units was not a problem and used a Wylex skeleton unit. I would treat isolation of supply as any other consumer unit change so should not be a problem.
