My flat is entirely lit (with exception of kitchen extractor hood and understairs cupboard) by MR16 downlight bulbs. We have real issues with them simply ceasing to work, on a very regular basis. The frustrating thing is that the bulbs are usually fine, and if taken out, wiggled about a bit, and put back, the connection comes alive again. I assume this is because of the simple two-prong nature of the bulb's connector, with nothing that 'locks' it in place. Is this a common issue with MR16s, and if so, one that can be solved in one fell swoop by a change over to GU10s?

Thanks in advance!

It's usually the plug that's at fault in these cases.... you can easily replace the lead and plug but that will still leave you with the energy gulping MR16's

If you change to LED then you'd be better off changing to GU10 or a sealed unit,, but then that'll cost more

very common problem. there is a lot of current going through those tiny pins, which burns out the connector. the connectors can be easily replaced
