Hi Grant, Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll be asked loads of questions about audio visual stuff:Welcome:

Welcome in. I`d tell you to pull up a chair, but Apache broke up the last one for firewood last week.

note: need some new chairs.

I`ll start with a daft question, that I probably already know the answer to:

My 2:1 samsung surrond is connected to both by telebox, and sky+ box (HDMI to TV, and optical to sky+).

If we decide to watch a film we`ve "recorded" with sky+, and I bung the surround sound on, everything is just fine.......until we pause it. The surroun has to be muted in pause or FF, as it produces a note of approx 2KHz - not sinewave by the sound, more like a sawtooth, IYKWIM?

Once we start playing film again, the audio track gets "noisy" - sound`ll go off then come back, hiccup, have "scratchy" sounds attached.

I think this is the skybox`s optical output causing the problem. Is there a solution, or do you think the problem lies elsewhere?

Hello Kme

Yes I have heard of this before, it is normally due to an ageing Sky box, You could try connecting the audio using the Sky Box's Left and Right analogue audio connections and see if it stops, but you wont get the surround sound format using analogue. Its about time Sky got HDMI connections onto all of their box's and the audio over hdmi working!

Note: on Sky NEW HD box's the audio over HDMI is now active but it is only giving a 2 channel audio, you still have to use an optical cable to get the surround sound encoding out of the box!

Hi Grant,

Thanks mate - is what I expected.I`ve already got the phonos in, but get annoyed at not having full functionality of the equipment we`ve got.....you know what I mean ;)

This is a similar problem that Arcam have with the optical out on sky boxes. The latest ones are even worse as they do not mute before changing the output stream so end up dumping a nasty sound out for a short time before the processor can resync the audio. On the older one it was just a blank time for a second or so which was just annoying but this new issue is very bad (esp when you may have just dropped best part of
