I've just been to look at a job to install a new feed for a cooker (electric oven). Even though the oven only requires a 2.5mm cable I was thinking of suggesting to the customer to run a larger cable so that if in the future they change to an electric hob and oven they won't need to run another cable. Any feedback on this would be welcome.

Makes sense. Some lay people assume that its a 6mm cable anyway and would install a huge hob on that.

Larger cookers may require a 32a supply so I'd give them the choice but encourage them to install at least 4mm, preferably 6mm cable. Especially if they're going to put down new flooring!

i just put a new oven in for my self 6mm to the 45A isolater and click dual connection unit .Then 4mm ho5vv-f flex to the oven @ 4,5 KW

HOB @ 5.4 KW

32A MCB

the option is there if i put a bigger hob in up to isolater with the 6MM at a latter date

click dual cooker points are sound as there is loads of room for the cables

Does the oven come with its own flex? Does it require to be fused at 16A. Check it as a lot do! If so could run to an enclosure in a one of cupboards with 6mm and 32/45A MCB in board, then come down in enclosure to 16A for oven leaving separate way for hobs, extra, ovens, etc... Just a thought.

No need for a second enclosure, it's just over complicating it and adding cost. Just put in the 6mm and put it on a 16A if that's what the oven needs. It can be changed to 32A later if needed.
