New member intro

Hi,
I started off in the Army as a Radio Relay tech but when i came out there was nothing in my line of business in the area I returned to.
I then got into oil. It was great, a bit like army life and I took to it like a duck to water. I started of as a Well Tester (is there anything viable in the hole that has just been drilled) but them moved on to being a Well Services Supervisor/Completions Engineer/Abandonment Specialist/Well Test Engineer, latterly as a consultant so basically taking on anything that was going in those fields.
The downturn starting in 2013 didn't hit me until 2016, so then I did an electricians course and worked at that until 2017 when I got cancer. I managed to do a bit later on, once I'd taken the pills, but the pain got too bad to contort into positions that being an electrician requires.
Still try to do a lot of DIY though.

Well done you for trying, sorry to hear of your experience of the big C. I too worked in the oil industry for a few years as an ROV pilot / tech / supervisor. The helicopter crash in Bergen finished me off though, I was that heli the flight before the fatal crash when the rotor head came off.

I too have been hit with cancer, unfortunately for me, mine has resulted in metastatic spinal cord compression, which paralysed me so no more sparkying for me.

Thanks for the reply John. Nice to get that rather than be a blank on the system.
I worked with many ROV operators when installing Xmas Trees - not an easy job when there's a current running and the vis is pretty poor.

I'm fairly certain I have replied to you Sidewinder, but I can't find anything so my apologies if I haven't. (BTW, don't drive @ 85mph on black ice - it alters the memory somewhat!!).
Sorry to hear you have been hit so hard with cancer, but wonderful that you post so many answers on this forum.
