Dunno mate,,,

I've still got a Philips CRT;)

Down your way on Sat,, dropping my daughter off for the ferry, sister in laws coming over to pick her up!

We're following next friday for the weekend;) not been over for nearly 2 years:O

We got a Sony back around the turn of the year, flat screen, not sure if its LCD plasma or owt else TBH!

Not even can I remember the cost.

It is native Freeview HD though, & I think it is 100Hz we are well chuffed with it, probably the best TV we have ever had sound & pic also it has 'tinternet via wired connection and loads of other stuff!

LED is deffo a cracking pic, I got a 21" (22"?) for my PC for xmas and the picture is simply stunning,

but, IIRC it has something to do with screen size as to which will give the better picture,

so I have no idea tbh, sorry :C

I know diddly squat about all this new fangled electronical stuff but all the 'experts' i have chatted with say dont buy plasma. I indeed purchased a backlit LED tv which is so good i cant see the difference between the norm or when i fire up the HD freesat box. I seem to be buying only Samsung stuff at the moment, its not planning but just the way its all worked out. What i would definitely look for is a TV with a USB port. This may hike it up to the next price range but worth it.

In the next couple of days im getting a 50 inch 3d LG Plasma for

Richer sounds. As i say not the best spec but for the money I think will be alot of fun!

Ok my fav topic as I install TV's for a living, for starters I'm a Plasma fan

Top two selling brands Panasonic and Samsung

Panasonic

Plasmas without doubt the best on the market, however as with LED you have to fork out to get the best model, the 50" P50VT30, in two words is 'the nuts', but not cheap as you are paying for 3D too!

Plasmas handle motion (video) better with less motion artefacts (shimmering around objects) particularly as almost all content now is compressed. Plasmas one weakness is still images, the only area where LCD will outperform Plasma.

LCD/LED

If you are convinced that LCD/LED is for you, then most buy Samsung, however the issue with artefacts would stop me buying LCD/LED. I hear all the time "look how thin my Samsung TV is", frankly I don't care since you look at the front for 99.9% of the time, "look how small the bezel is" again personal choice I prefer a defined border to my TV picture, if space is limited then perhaps you might get a slightly bigger model in a given space.

My biggest gripe of Samsung is their system menus (particularly when used with Anynet+) too many options and seems to cause massive confusion with clients, it is just not intuitive and gets annoying very quickly. by example I recently installed a Samsung TV and Home Cinema (client purchase chioce), logically 1x HDMI to the TV with XBox and other gear plugged into the HC system, client rings me a few days later confused as hell can't select the input they want, after a chat I suggest he call Samsung help line to see if they have a simple solution that has been overlooked in the manual, they advised plug everything into TV and turn off Anynet+ DOH!!

I have a anynet+ tv, Its all over the box so i googled what it was, didnt turn up much results couldnt get my head round what it was so have never got any further! Soon to have another anynet+ and still no idea what it does!

Essentially Samsung's version of HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) the idea is that when you switch on an HDMI device such a BluRay the TV will switch to correct input and likewise if you have a home cinema system. Trouble is when you have a few devices it can get a bit confused, on the Samsung version you end up going around in circles.

Panasonic call it VieraLink, Onkyo = RHID, Sony = Bravia Sync

I set up an Onkyo + Panasonic TV and BluRay and it work perfectly out of the box first time, turning the BluRay on, turned the TV and Onkyo on to the correct input/outputs, but this is rare in my experience
