Getting a new van this year as mine is now 10 years old. (getting VW T5 )

I was going to go 2nd hand, but my accountant recommended new from discount internet company.

he was right.

I have discovered the price of a discounted new van is the same price as a year old one with miles. I think people can not stand to wait 6-30 weeks for a new van.

The best company i have found so far is Autoebid

Does anyone else have experience with this type of company or can recommend how to get a good deal on a new VW T5.?

they have cheapest entry T5 for £15374+vat or less (dealers bid down) which is normally £17225+vat

I think im going to get a sportline which is £25475+vat (or less) RRP £28875+vat

My friend who is a salesman for Vauxhall suggested i print out the internet deal and approach my local VW van centre to see if they can match it as it is something they often do for customers.

I would prefer to get it from a local dealer rather then one other side of the country.

my Vauxhall salesman friend did also say he could do me a great deal but there vans are not a patch on the VW and i am better off spending the money on something that will last. :slap

I bought my last van new on-line. Delivery from the other end of the country was only £50. Buying new makes sense if you have got the cash. In my case I timed it so I got the Vat back straight away and the depreciation allowance in your tax (its all changed but it was something like 20-40% over 3 years). Anyhow when you work out the costs at the end of 3 years its not cost a lot more than buying 3-5 year old van plus the benefits of new such as breakdown cover and no soiling to the seats.

Isn't the T5 especially the sporty one terrible on fuel ?

Fuel economy is not good figures for sportline are between 29-42mpg  average 36mpg but the half powered 84 only does 1mpg better, and has a 0-60 time twice as slow at 20secs compared to the sportlines 10secs.

I read that the 180ps model can be better than 84ps if you have a heavy load. The 180 model has almost twice the torque so need less revs to get going.

Which sealed the deal for me needing the Sportline...........  thats kind of how i told the misses......its cheaper in the long run  :innocent

current T4 Kombi 2.5TDi is 29-34mpg loaded up.   New van wont be Kombi.

Canoeboy- how is the DSG?  i have read its good, i still like gears but might have a test drive before i pick my model.

ladders make big difference, and flipping whistle in the wind. Vito does about 32MPG on a run, or roughly 450miles for £95 of diesel.

After much research and help from VW T5 forum,

I discovered VW dealers can offer up to 12% discount, which is roughly what the internet companies were offering.

Of my 2 closest dealers , 1 offered 5.5% and the other 8% off a new Sportline with extras.

I went with the 8% deal rather then buying with a 12% discount from a place further away.

I have now left my deposit and just have to wait 6 months for it to arrive.
