Hi been doing a few alterations in a house past few days she has asked for her tv point in the corner moving onto the chimney breast I've run a coax pf 100 I think it is I normally use rg59 but they didn't have it the length is only around 10 m in length when at one end there is a coax plug the other end there is another 1g aerial point so it's simply plugged into the existing tv point. Plug tv into existing point perfect signal plug extension into existing and signal is rubbish. Any ideas the aerial is in the loft it has some sort of tape joint but there but can't see how It can be that when it works ATM I will be putting a booster in in a few weeks to add points to another room his it because there are too many joints and no booster or his the cable not upto the job any help would be greatly appreciated

your cable is dodgy by the sounds of it, check your plug, and connections at the outlet,

I dont see anything wrong with CT100 for short runs TBH.

I could be wrong here, but isnt RG59 50 ohms ?

sorry , my mistake Ive just looked at some of mine, its RG58 that is 50 ohms .

I've been there 2 hours just checking I've swapped coax plates checked coax plug I'm just puzzled to what it could be good job ive tested it before plasterer comes

Bad connection on either end of the plugs you fitted to the extension or you have damaged the cable, maybe with a clip

No good for you right now, but i carry one of these Labgear Digital and Analogue TV Signal Strength Finder in my van . I have a lead with various adapters made up to be able to test all types of aerial plugs. Screwfix also sell them

Have you tested the cable to see if its shorted out

Get your tester out.

You should measure infinite resistance from the centre pin to the outer. If not, you have a short circuit somewhere.

You should measure a very low resistance from the outer of the plug to the outer of the socket, and likewise from the pin of the plug to the pin of the socket.

If those test out, them my second guess is you installed the cable with a VERY sharp bend somewhere, otherwise known as a kink. RF signals get funny about really sharp bends in coax cables.

I've done loads of tv points with rg59 and never had a problem think I'm gonna invest in one of those testers though what is the difference between the 2 cables ill have a good look tomorrow and let u know

Thanks Dave I'll test it tomorrow

Just a update redid tape joint in loft with proper joining equipment and made a lead for tv to coax point and it's all working good now no idea what the actual fault was. I also got a coax tester from screw fix about

Sometimes with digtal tv too much signal can be a bad thing, ive got one of them labgear testers but dont find it much use to be honest shows no green lights on my tv point but i get Freeview HD with no breakup even in the bad weather.
