So as the world of printed news loses another scalp, how many forumites used to regularly or occasionally obtain copes of NME, Melody Maker etc to see what their favourite bands and artists were up to. Or to find out what the new buzzing musical sounds were? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-43322793  Sometimes it is hard to remember the days when you waited a whole week before getting an update on what is happening in your music scene.

NME published some of my work back in the 80’s. Bloody hard work to get them to accept it. “We don’t publish work from non NUJ members.” The NUJ would not accept a new member without previously published work as evidence. This would have gone around in circles had it not been for one thing, I have an IBSN identification.

I was reading Eamon Dunphy's autobiography, (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rocky-Road-Eamon-Dunphy/dp/0241968852) after he retired from football he wanted to be a columnist but he wasn't allowed to because he was in the same catch 22 situation as you. It was a closed shop and couldn't get in, he had even already published a best seller (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Only-Game-Diary-Professional-Footballer/dp/0140102906) but he was still rejected by the NUJ. In the end he got a break from the Sunday World who subcontracted the sports section out to freelance writers.

The two books you have sited give the ISBN numerical reference, to get that he would have to submit his work to the British Library.

Hang on, I’ve just looked at the ISBN website, you can now just buy a reference.

Its a changing world  Doc , as I'm sure you're aware  and  printed word news will be changing  as printed  books are .    I think I bought one copy of NME once  , back when the only way to hear the latest pop records was  tuning into Radio Luxemburg   , whose signal improved when it got dark .
