I've got a socket that is positioned on the outside of my conservatory its not protected by an RCD, although it should be protected by and RCD should I do something about it???? or is it ok to leave it as it is???? At the moment I believe the socket is a spur from the ring main in the conservatory. ?:|

Well DeadlyDan 007 you must be licensed to kill with that socket and no RCD. Its not true that You only live Twice , a shock out there on the wet grass won't just leave you shaken but not stirred but could be a View to a Kill . Then they will be saying " Phone a Doctor, No, he,s already brown bread. ;) ; )

thanks for the advice, to answer a few of your questions, my consumer unit i believe is 10 years old, i thinks its been here since the house was built, i've only lived here about 4 years but who ever designed the house should be shot, becasue the consumer unit is UNDER THE SINK!!!!

and the socket itself is a spur off one of the sockets in the conservatory

 :O:O:O

Then an RCD protected weatherproof socket (there are plenty of choices) should be fitted AS A MINIMUM. Your installation would fail a PIR, as the installation does not comply to 16th ed. Preferably, Have ALL the sockets on an RCBo -if your board is 10 yrs old, it is populated by MCB`s. Just swap one out for an RCBo. Job done, and no disruption to the decor (in OR out).

That`s what I`d do. Then I`d move the sink!

I'm with Martyn on this One. I would rather do the protection at the board! and protect the whole cct/ccts.

And the move too.

I have seen a situation, where the outside weatherproof socket is plugged into an inside socket using an RCD adapter.

No different to the extension lead out of the window!

Atleast there is RCD protection.

B&Q do a DIY outside socket kit like that
