so you could potentially put a new circuit in if there was an mcb already there and it wouldn't be notifiable?
no.

An MCB is NOT a circuit....

perhaps try looking at definitions part 2?

Or if an MCB "was an existing circuit" then what pray tell are the characteristics written on the cert for JUST an MCB??

e.g.

wiring conductors Live & CPCmm?

Continuity R1+R2 Insulation Resistance,

Polarity, Earth loop etc..

If none of these figures were available to be written on a cert,

then NO circuit previously existed!

if some "alleged sparks" are trying to claim a spare MCB in a CU is a circuit

then this place is become like some other less desirable forums! :(

It is interesting how many persons bemoan part P

& want to report non-registered sparks "taking their" work or making their "busy lives harder"..

yet they themselves spout out rubbish about "fiddling around part P"

and NOT doing work in a professional manner.

IRRESPECTIVE of whether work is notifiable or not..

Proper certificates & testing MUST always be done..

so while these bits are being done anyway..

an extra 30seconds registering notifiable work on-line is no problem at all when it is applicable., :|

Its the notifying bit I have trouble with, this great list of names and addresses where someone had a plug added in the kitchen , Mrs Doodah has had her kitchen rewired , Ooo look theres a bloke here just had an outside socket fitted . Data bases like this worry me .

Compliance with Building Regulations

It appears that the introduction of the electrical safety Competent Person

Self-Certification Schemes has increased the level of compliance with

Building Regulations. The number of electrical contractors choosing to

become registered installers of competency-based schemes has risen from

about 20% to 50% (13,000 to 30,000) within the first two years. In turn,

these contractors have certified, on average, about one million electrical

installations per year as compliant with Building Regulations. This has ensured

that a greater number of electrical installations in dwellings have been

conducted by or under the supervision of someone deemed competent to do

so.

However, there is still more to be done to swing the balance towards full

compliance, making it harder for incompetent and rogue installers to

operate. Those installers willing to participate are already in schemes; the

challenge will be to ensure that they continue to do so as well as convince

the remaining contractors that the benefits of registration outweigh the

costs

This was taken from the Part P Report BD 2612.

The report outlines the need for competant persons to continue to provide a sevice that sets them apart from the "cowboys".

I always tell any one who askes me about notifiable work, if in doubt notify it.

Any data base which carries a list of all work notified to any LABC can only be a good thing, it shows that competant persons are doing their job.

i would like to know how many of them were 5 day sparks, im not saying they are cowboys but the amount of work being undertaken and notified has bound to have increased if there are more people doing it.

Given this government's perchant for poking it's nose into everyones business I offer you a vision of the future. No need to fill in a tax return , Big Brother (Orwell's) just accesses the LBC database to assess your earnings. O)

And then they will lose the disk and the whole world will know.
