Just wondering what sort of cables people use for general outdoor wiring, where an swa isnt needed or any mechanical protection?

I like to use a cable called hi-tuff for outdoor use. It's like swa but without the steel in it.

anything UV resistant ie black, which is usually hi-tuff
Just because a cable is ''Black'' binky, doesn't mean it's UV resistant. It's the properties in the make-up of the sheath that will make it UV resistant or not!!

It all depends on what and where your using the outdoor cable, and the environment/position it's installed. ...For argument's sake if its carrying 230v and installed where children, domestic, or wild animals are present then i would certainly stick with the armoured cables. Sheaths can be repaired, where-as living things sometimes can't!!! lol!!!

According to BS7671 2008 it is (but i know what you mean ;)
