Hi

I am fully qualified C&Guilds, JIB approved, I also have 2391 test & inspect.

I currently work for contracting firms on a self employed basis.

I want to start on my own in domestic properties , so i need Part P - I know that

But can someone fill me in on the whole deal with Part P.

I need to take a course & exam ... right?

I then need to register with a body (annually at a fee) ... right?

and then i can go about my biz and self certificate..... right?

Can anyone suggest the cheapest courses in London for becoming Part P registered , providing that I'm correct that is.

Thanks Guys

Hi mate,

No need for course or exam with your qualifications - any scheme will be glad to have you:^O (money, money, money).

You will have to pay an assessment/annual fee, whoever you choose.

After that you can certify your own work without notifying BC in advance.

Give whichever scheme you choose a ring and they'll tell you their requirements for assessment.

It would be worthwhile reading up on the 'Building Regs' that apply to us sparkys, in particular Part P, but there are others that apply - not so much for your assessment, but so you know what's required for domestics anyway.

The IEE do a good book called 'The Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations' well worth having a copy. ;)

Hope that's a help.

Thanks ADS for your comments,

It was a help, I am totally mistified about all this Part P Mallarky.

You've shed some light.... excuse the pun!!

Mr Resistor, we are all mistified by Part P , but we are stuck with it so here goes .

You need to be enrolled with NICEIC/NAPPIT/ECA/ELECSA/BS this means you have been assessed as a "competent person" for the purpose of "signing off" domestic work controlled by the Local Building Control . I think thats it in a nutshell. There are still thousands of domestic jobs carried out without membership, but thats another story.

The fact that you are already "competent" as a JIB Approved Grade means sod all in this system , you need to part with

If not Admin will get it added.
