As the end of college draws ever nearer (last exam 25th march) I decided to do a quick PAT test course. We spent one full day on legislation and half the second day on the theory of testing. We then spend the second half of the day testing an old kettle with a Seaward IT1000 tester, on Tuesday 3rd I will sit a multiple choice exam which I will hopefully pass be a fully qualified City & Guilds tester.

I have aquired a Fluke 6200 tester and have already lined up a job for a mate at work who has a mobile disco. If he had a mobile tea bar it would not be a problem because after parting with

No advice then?

Most gear was on IEC leads. Tested leads seperately then just did earth bond at 200ma and an "Isub" test for earth leakage at 35v.

Made up a Cert in Exel with the list of all 49 items with results. If the local town hall burns down at the weekend I'll Know I got it wrong.

ps. I posted this reply to myself incase anybody else is in the same boat oneday.

 
Hi there,

Glad I wasn't the only one who intially felted "under skilled" from just completing the C&G course - 2 hours of practical testing is no way near enough to send someone out to perform tests like these. The course should be changed!

But give it time you will gain more experience and confidence :)
