hi ive just passed (pat testing 2377) and would like some info on buying the wright test equipment,

im currently out of work and would like to try and find my own jobs, but i have to choose what i buy very carefully as im out of work i dont have much money,

is there antone who can help me with this?

Obviously if PAT testing is going to be your living, then buy the best.

A good start off tester is the Kewtech KT71. It will get you by as long as you allow for the fixed parameters on the Earth Bond test.

Don't go for a simple PASS/FAIL model with no numerical display, or you'll fail everything in sight. As you've passed the 2377 you will understand the importance of being able to interpret the readings.

Avoid Seaward kit. From experience the equipment is expensive, unreliable and the after sales support from Seaward is very poor. :|

Not sure on your budget but Megger have recently launched a new range of PAT testers?

I've recently got the KT71 (lots of offers on them at the mo as it seems its due to be replaced). As stated before its good to start off with. The only time its failed items on me is extension leads, but its easily sorted with the numeric display.

I've got a Seaward Supernova for testing. Nice bit of kit with storage of all test results and downloadable. It does both 110 and 230 volt so I can test on site as well. Only downside is it's a heavy beast and they don't come cheap.

I regret buying the Megger business in a box (PAT4DV/3). With the printer and scanner it's V expensive. The drop down menus are counter-intuitve, making it a ****** to learn. Still struggling, so I might shove the whole lot on ebay lol. Good luck kiddo. Michael

Just got a Megger catalogue and was looking at that business in a box. May now turn my attention to the Megger PAT4 DV/3

Danny?

Have you any prior PAT experience or have you just tried to diversify by completing your 2377?

If not, maybe get on with a firm first for experience/pricing structure?

I have the Meggar PAT4DVF

Nice piece of kit, not the easiest to use (but the larger keyboard is good compared to the Fluke)

All depends on what you are after... its not really portable, not the quickest to use either..

I have a scanner with mine - does make it quicker, but only for repeat tests/assets

O.
