Years ago I fitted an Xpelair DX200T centrifugal fan which had a delay of about 2 mins before it came on. They called it politely the pee timer! I note from a previous post that Airflow do a similar device.

It's not something that's referred to in many brochures/catalogues/websites but is a fantastic feature! Anyone know of other models, axial preferably, that incorporate such technology?

Or even better, a clever PIR that has the delay timer built in and then a standard (ie cheap!) fan can be used....

Hayulp!

You may find one of these but it will probably be marketed as an 'occupancy sensor'.
Thanks for the tip, although searching for 'delay' on any sensor just brings up details of how long they'll stay on for. Grrrr.

The airflow fans seem great, denmans do them, but the one with a built in pir has a premium of

It's a rat, asleep with a teddy bear. My son has a pet rat that looks just like that one :)
thought it was, just couldn't quite make it out. Friend of mine had one, made a pretty good pet for an animal with such bad PR :^O

Which Denmans do you use , Brum ? ' cos they're not very good at sourcing things like that TBH .
I use Erdington mostly, sometimes Perry Barr. I also use CEF in Sutton Coldfield, Electricfix all over the place (Lichfield are really helpful) and occasionally QVS and TLC.

Think i'll be approaching RS directly for these if no joy in the morning in Erdington.

Hi BrummyDave,

Love the use of the 'Pee Timer' name, does explain its purpose very well.

We have noticed a bit of a renaissance of this type of fan recently, so much so that we have created an Extractor Fan category called 'Delay Start Bathroom Fans' (apparently the manufacturers don't like the name Pee Timer).
Hi Jay,

Thanks for the link! And your comments made me smile :) . The xpelair dx200t was the first fan i fitted with a delay timer, and i thought it was a brilliant idea! Seems the fans that have it inbuilt are a lot costlier than those that don't.

I can see why they're gaining in popularity thought as all too often fans are switched off by people who don't want the noise. And if only very briefly visiting the bathroom then it's noise that's unnecessary! My landlord customer wants a fan to be on as much as possible to prevent mould, as unthinking tenants won't open windows.

So a delayed fan which is quiet is the best option. But a cheap one is the landlords. Hmm.

So that's why I was thinking of a cheap(ish) quiet fan and a separate timer. (plus the pir used to switch the fan on will have an inbuilt timer) At least if the tenants shove tissue in the fan and burn it out it'll be a cheap replacement.

In this case currently it's going in zone 1 as well so ideally ELV would be nice. However 230V is ok thanks to RCDs:) and I do like the airflow qt100 so may go that option...although the £50 premium over manrose might be harder to justify...

Order placed :) . I've not used you before, but the process has been painless :) joyous even! time to go to work... :innocent

Thanks Dave,

Three are leaving today, and will be with you tomorrow (we use DPD so you will get an email in the morning with a one hour delivery window). The remainder will be with you Tuesday/Wednesday next week. I think we underestimated demand on that model so will buy a few more in, but luckily we place stock orders almost every day with Airflow.

Thanks for the business :Applaud

Yeah 25-40 seems good for the amount of controllability these add. Definitely know I can sell them to end users, not so sure for landlords...
