Pet sensitive intruder alarms

Hi guys - When installing an intruder alarm is it ok to spur it off an existing circuit i.e. does it need it's own MCB? It might soung like a simple question but I haven't installed one before.

I tend to run seperate circuit if possible but if not a spur of lighting or ring main is fine. I do a few alarms last one took me nearly 2 1/2 days but that was installing cables underfloors and an extra socket. If you do them stick to one make that way you will get quicker when installing.

Are alarms generally straightforward to fit? It's just that the ones i've been looking at come with a 6 core cable.

6 core is common on many alarm systems, some use 8 core to reduce the number of cables that need to be run.

I think many PIR detectors require 6 cores just on their own.

Alarms are all different and have different levels of protection. I would not say they are easy to install and they are all different. They need programming which takes time. I have fitted quite a few but because I don't do them regularly it takes me longer than somebody that does them day in day out. You need to ask what customer wants and show them the options. They have instructions which you need to follow otherwise you will get into a mess. Most alarm manufacturers have tech support if you get stuck.

i use texecom alarms. generally 1x 6 core to each detector. some you can use 4core (i.e R8 + has EOL), or 4core if no tamper

depending on number of zones used, i sometimes have zone 5-8 as the tamper for zone 1-4

generally, they are easy to fit, if your using the same system. main problem is programming, but once youve done it a few times, its much easier

other problem is hiding the cables, and fault finding

It depends!

I recently bought an alarm system from CPC that uses 2 core all the way through and has no right or wrong polarity - not fitted it yet though.

It's only going in the workshop so although the blurb suggests that it has anti-tamper, it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't...

I fit Texacom . Its mostly 6 core Damien, have a good read of the instructions before you start. 6 core to outside bell, 6 core to detectors, 4 core to remote KP .

Detectors have 2 cores (+) (-) ,2 cores across the tamper on the cover, 2 cores N/C across the zone. All 12volt.

Programming some makes can be a PITA . Alarm installing has its own terms and language.

Your OP mentions Pet Sensitive, Pet sensors can be set to trigger for a certain size/mass animal , couple of settings to cover cats up to bigger dogs. Anything the size of a human will trigger.

Some alarms need 6 cores for keypad have a read before you start that way you will get gist of whats needed.
