Hi all, my wife has bought some retro looking light switches for one of our bedrooms, they look like the old style Bakelite round ones and they have an square oak mounting plate behind which will cover over where the old light switch mounted which was of the raised box type. The wiring into the original switch had a red in which went to the common terminal and a black which was wired to the L1 terminal plus an earth to the casing. The round plastic replacement has a common, 1 way (L1 I guess) 2 way and a looping terminals. What happens to the earth wire, is this now redundant due to the plastic case of the switch?

Many thanks for any help..............Martin

Just put a bit of earth sleaving on it and connect into a single piece of terminal block (with no other wire coming out the other side).  That way if the switch ever gets changed in the future to a switch that needs an earth , it is there.
