I have been doing some PAT today I hate it but work is work as they say.

Its been over a year since I last did any big jobs I normally pass them on.

I have tested 61 items so far with another 20 or so to do, my question is how much should I be charging?

I know last year I was very cheap, I dont mind cheap but fair would be better.

So if anyone has any ideas what I should expect or what they would charge let me know. Cheers.

I've been pat'ing today (also did a periodic at same place) only 21 items so far but have council office's & other community halls to do, total of 140 odd items to do.

I quoted

I was chatting to friend at college the other day, he works for a well known Building management company , they often get asked to do PAT at these contracts , I was very surprised to find out they sub this work out , he has managed to get most of his contacts done at

Look at it this way..

how long would it take you on average to find the item and then carry out the required tests, apply the pass or fail sticker and then complete the paperwork?

I recon on about 5 minutes.. that gives you

i was at a factory a few last year, for non-electrical reasons. PAT testing got mentioned and he asked me a price, since it was all due again in a few weeks. he looked shocked when i said

Because they charge a high rate for any fuse replacements or repairs undertaken.....or they dont class a (for example) computer & lead as one item they use the lead to test the pc, then test the lead on it's own....same with screens & kettles. So instead of testing 100 pc's you've now go a bill for 400 items.
Any removable lead (especially an IEC lead) which can easily be interchanged or used for a different piece of equipment should IMO be a seperate item and tested seperately

i always charge each piece of equipment as an item, so a kettle would be 1 item, and its lead would be another

i dont do much PAT, because they dont want to pay what i charge. would rather go to someone who charges

I hate it and they only customers I do it for pay 498.00 per day ... So it's worth doing ... I think 1 pound per item is too cheap I used to do it for 2 per item and that was still cheap for around us ...

I also get all labels printed out so I do not have to fill them in and I think that's 20 quid per 500 but it saves no end of time you just test and stick

+1

if it can be moved then it is portable,

the lead can be moved, so its a separate test.
