hi all,

i have just been asked to give an estimate to a carpet wholesaler to change 200 8ft flourescent fittings to 6fts, the fittings are going to cost me roughly

For 200 fittings mate. Id go into wholesaler and ask for price of 1, then ask how much cheaper it gets for 10, then ask what discount youd get for 200. It must be much cheaper than normal unit price. Nice job offer mate, good luck with it.

Whats the access like, high up? any wiring needs altering? have you seen the wiring does it look good?

Cheers

i reckon i would be working at about the rate of 10 per night,

it is up high but they habe the things they uses there to get the carpets down, no wiring needs altering just a swap the existing fittings are flexed up so just a csae of taking 1 down and putting a new 1 up, not fixing either there all on chaing so would just nee to move the hook across

Price per point x 200. Get the price for 1 fitting x 200.

Then make some more profit when you save 500quid on your bulkbuying! it all depends on how tight the job has to be.

Are they suitable for people?????? Don't use unless they are - one broken leg = no money for 6 weeks min.

I would check out some proper gear, and would certainly be looking at a pair of hands to make life easier and phone ambulance if required :innocent .

Would have thought 30 mins per unit depending on access equipment, but don't forget setting up time and clearing away each morning.

How are the original fittings connected up , as they are on chain , I would imagine / hope they are on all on plug in greggs , if so

binky has a point.

Lone working possibly live is illegal actually.

Using access equipment which is not a "man handler" is also illegal and really silly!

Remember, if you do hurt yourself, when you come around in hospital the Police & HSE may well be waiting to inverview you under caution these days as the customers insurer will want to wriggle out of any possible claim.

However, forget all that, look after yourself!!!

Flying carpet, it will save hours on the job, load it up with fittings 2 of you in the air, however, then you need a body on the ground, or another means of escape!

You'll eat through it.

I've been doing some work in a car park changing light fittings and tubes out of hours. I originally started using step ladders, but eventually found that a small scaffold platform made the job easier, much quicker and safer. athe platform only cost around

And a visit from the HSE as it would be notifiable under RIDDOR then a visit to speak to the man with the Black Gown and White Wig
