I listened to an album from start to finish for the first time in years the other day. Nirvana - In Utero.

I have an technics sl1210mk2 with an ortofon electro cartridge, the other one is in the loft.

Last record played... Paul Simon Album for some strange reason?

I also have a few jukeboxs i restored. Oldest is a 1948 Ami that plays 78s. Cant beat a valve amp.

I amongst other crap collect car related records, more hot rod/american. Usually picture on cover and not content. On the other hand, the Blue beat label is a favorite of mine.

Ah  Kerch ...you stir up the memories again .    I too had a Dansette auto changer , didn't everyone ?    As a 12 yr old I had mine playing through a Mullard 3 all valve  amp & a massive radio speaker . all mono then. 

I too have two bins of vinyl in loft , I grew up on my brother's jazz records but first single I bought I think, was  " Mystery Train " Elvis version of a Junior Parker Blues song.       Albums , or LPs as we called them were quite expensive but first one was Elvis's Golden Discs .  

You've reminded me of when a mate from down the road came up one night clutching an LP   ( Vinyl album)  "You gotta hear this guy "     That was hearing  Chuck Berry for the first time .

Because radio could not play many records in those days due to putting live musicians out of a job , to hear the latest hits we went to coffee bars to play the juke box ...so an Expresso Coffee , handful of sixpences ,  watch the girls jive to Elvis , Buddy Holly , Eddie Cochran & Chuck Berry .

Coming out of night school at 9.00 pm , everyone would be in the coffe bar and  constantly playing would be "Apache"  by The Shadows .  

Memories flooding in now Kerch .... some sad ....our mate John killed on his motor bike .......many of that gang were still visiting his parents 30 years later . Lived on the corner of our street .  

Kerch  ...can you remember the cheapo versions of the latest hit songs ,  as you say  K-Tel etc ...I'm thinking of the crapo versions put out by Woolworths I think ,  @ half the price .....latest hit song version by someone you never heard of .

Were they 'Top of the pops' with the scantily clad ladies on the cover, or am i mixing it up with the real artists ones which were a forerunner to todays 'Now'?

My system is ancient. All Rotel separates except the deck that’s a Goldring Lenco GL75. I got the GL75 for a fiver, “the bearings are shot”. Got it home undid the motor transit screws, its worked perfectly ever since. I’ve replaced the knife edge bearings twice in 25 years.

Between us my son and I have five Rotel 840 amps. Between us we’ve also had two ASBO’s for noise.

I have a Quad amp, pre amp & tuner  in the loft. Worth a  few quid now, even better that it was free as it came from the Sainsburys head office, managers dining room during a refit back  in the 70's

I listen to my dads old vinyls sometimes, unfortunately the player is left in less than desirable conditions sometimes so the belt on it goes every now and then. cheap solution to that? elastic band. Least it's not duct tape?

Whatever it is Kerch , it has to be in pristine condition .     Unless you have a 10"  LP  of Elvis's early  Sun recordings , must be on the HMV label though.

The one I am looking for was going for £6k on ebay"it is one of the 100 original,pressings!

How do,I know this?.........we lived next to the keyboard player! And he gave us a copy....well HIS Mum sold it to My Mum in about 1965/6 i think

I love the old vinyl album covers, CDs just aren't big enough, but couldn't be arsed o go back to vinyl. The sound quality is better, but only when new and not abused / scratched, covered in fluff etc etc. I bought a mini disc just before MP3 became popular - annoying! Like the sound quality of mini-disc and transferred all my vinl to that.

For some unknown reason the wife bought me a record palyer with USB connector for xmas, so I can do it all again to MP3  - like I have time to firk about with that. 2 chances

I have long got rid of all my vynil. I have been into Hifi since I was 16, bought a Hitachi tape deck first, adding it to my dads stereo. Then got hold of a secondhand Rotel amp and a matching graphic equaliser (they were massive) soon added a big pair of Hitach speakers and an Akai record deck.

In later years added 2 pairs of Mission speakers, replaced amp with Technics AA amp (100W RMS) and Technics CD and tuner as well as a twin cassette deck. In total probable well in excess of £1000 worth - and that was years ago.

Still have it in the back room. In the main lounge, I just bought a Sharp bookshelf system. A small unit with CD/DAB/FM/aux in/bluetooth etc etc and a pair of small speakers. Cost £100

I reckon it sounds better than the technics stuff!

A couple of those Lp's are worth a few bob now as Elton John did some session work on them in the early 70's so now sought after. I think he did Ray Dorsets voice in Mungo Jerry's In the summertime & the lead on Bridge over troubled water.

Also have separates systems, one is Technics AA Class Amp with cassette players, CD player, tuner and record deck, 2x Mordant Short + 2x Tannoy speakers. Other system is NAD amp, Q Deck and Audio Research speakers. Still have a couple of hundred vinyl albums 1970's-1990's and still listen to them regularly, dug out 7 or 8 Bowie albums last night and gave them a spin.
