Hi, we have bought a 1950's house and it has so many old cable TV boxes, telephone etc. we have one box that is a puzzle.

It is about 2" x 1 3/4", has an 8 core cable going in and  twelve small slots on the top, it's about 3/4" thick, any ideas, first post so no pictures allowed

Val

The box is in the living room if that helps

Any brands names, numbers or other I'D markers on it?

Does it look professional or home made?

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thankyou,

Here it is, I remember seeing one in the distant past, but not sure what it is/was

Has to be some ancient telephone socket I'd think ..   never seen anything like that TBH .

Are the slots in the cover for a plug ?

Or could it be the old Rediffusion television system ?

Possibly an old British Relay box? Memory fuzzy but I think they used 8 core cable in the 1950's.

Anyone else older than me???

Think its for a radio system possibly a old police radio, the connector looks like part of the clinch - jones connectors
