How often should basic functional testing of the system be carried out as per BS 5266 and what records should be availiable.

We do monthly flash test bi annually (6 monthly 1 hour test and yearly 3 hour test

There recorded in a log book and any non functioning fittings are repaired or replaced and that's also recorded in log book

A functional test is required per month a full 1 or 3 hour duration test is required annually to regs but good practice to test 1/2 duration at 6 months also

Log book and maintenance records of tests undertaken. And repairs needed to be recorded

Daily: check the charging indicators are 'on' on all em units

Monthly: functional check (ie turn off supply and ensure all units light)

6 monthly: 1 hour functional test

annually: 3 hour functional check

All tests should be recorded. Some manufacturers do downloadable check sheets and log forms. I think you can buy log books, but am not sure where from. It'd be easy enough to knck up a form in Word or Excel.

The log should also record any repairs carried out.

Pc I thought the daily led checks were for central battery systems only that's what it says on the log books we use anyway

I used to think the same I've only ever seen one central battery system this was in a school not sure if it's a process that's still used though

Site im at have fittings that they KNOW have been dead for months but nothings been done so im going to try and force the maintainence companys hand and get them a system that isnt half crocked.
