hi guys i have been asked by a friend of a friend to quote for an insurance job.

just to replace 4 downlights + a fan in the bathroom

connect up a new shower in the bathroom

and to fit 3-4 new downlights in the hall way

and give the electrics a once over

all due to flooding from upstairs

so my question is as i am just an employee of a company can i give them a quote or do you need to be VAT registered etc etc?

thanks

There is NO obligation for any insurance work to be undertaken by a VAT registered business.....

You say you are an employee of a company

Are you also registered with HMRC as a sole trader?

Or were you considering trying to do this as Cash in hand job/non-declared income/foreigner (*delete as appropriate)

:innocent :innocent

I would suggest it is VERY unwise to provide a formal written quote to an insurance company, for work that you are not going to declare to the Tax-Man...

Providing you have declared your own business to HMRC then it don't matter what sort of business you are..

sole-trader/Partnership/Ltd company/PLC etc.. etc...

You are as legitimate as the next man to quote for the work!

;)

thanks for the reply

no i am not registered as a sole trader

so i will not be sending a quote i will see if my boss wants to

thanks again

And theres the public liability insurance thing, and the income tax tax thing and the National insurance thing and the not being insured in your car for carrying out business milage and the carriage of business goods clause and the insurance company probably demanding an NICEIC contractor thing and the making up a business letterhead thing .

as long as you do self assessement and are registered with a scam(insurance co will ask for it)and it would be notifiable in a special location,

oh, and have your insurance,

(as has all been said before)

then there is no reason you could not do this.

personally,

I would say its a deffo NO NO as a cash job.

You could always make up a company that what others seem to be doing these days and give a false number on the certificate.

on a pedantic note... how will connecting up a NEW shower be covered by an insurance claim? ditto others though, Deffo not a cash job.
