We will have to agree to disagree on that one then !...What would you put on the Minor Works cert in the P-E I/R box ?

a1spark
looks like it. its not idea and i would try and avoid leaving the fault, but with some customers, what can you do!

and for 'what would i put on MWC', how about the readings i get?

if you put the recorded results and there was a fire you would have sole responsibility ..

not a nice place to be in ..

or lie and say results were ok ...

not really an option either .

no. i have stated that there was an existing fault. if there was a fire, it was going to happen anyway. doesnt magically happen once something has been done to circuit

Andy I know only too well the difficulties of trying to get a customer to agree to essential remedial work...I deal with it myself constantly.I also know we have agreed to disagree as we have differing standards, but you may be leaving yourself open to possible legal action if a future problem does occur as you are declaring on your certs that your work complies with BS 7671....I think you would be hard pressed to sustansiate this claim if challenged...if you carry out your work in line with BS 7671 and certify it as such .then this becomes your Get out of trouble card if things go pear shaped.....only my thoughts..............No offence intended and as I said I fully understand the Day to Day customer related problems....

if you make it clear on cert what you have done, what faults already existed and what action should be taken, thats you covered. if it did go to court, then you would probably win. but id still rather avoid the hassle of the day out

Thats not the way I See it , But as I said We are all experienced Sparks,,,we make our own judgements and Stand or Fall by them.....Ive no problem at all with that Andy and respect your right to your own practices..... ;)

Sometimes the rules have to be bent to suit the situation !! I was faced with a disabled lady who was obviously not financially blessed. Did the job for the the cost of materials, no certs , no notifying, no talk of rewiring, no RCD ( another

i did the same for an old woman, she had no money and no family and could not walk 10 foot.

i broke the golden rule dont fit cheap boilers because they are rubbish.

fitted the cheapest boiler i could find and did it for pocket money..

it broke down 4 times in 3 weeks, she cancelled the cheque and called me a cowboy.. ??

i will never ever do a job cheap again or never ever drop my standards for anyone again . :)

it always come back at you. ALWAYS !!!!!

even if i was to do a work similar to that, the same quality materials would always be used!

the boiler was a baxi 80he so good solid build but not my prefered choice..

manufacturers were on site next day on each fault.

i also visited the property same day for diagnosis every time and organised the tech.

by using a lower quality appliance i saved her 600 pound off the install and she still paid by dam cheque.

never again .

both , i am really picky who i work for.

went to a bigggggg house last year to fit a wood burner, fantastic job, good prohit,

the customer was a doctor and obviously doing well.

i gave him a good price which he accepted, later that day he emailed me wanting a discount and did not want to pay the vat.

as far as i know it still wants fitting . :)

we can all find work with no prohit and be very busy, i choose not to . :)

Hello all,got a call today to go round an old ladies house and raise all her plug sockets as shee is having trouble bending down to plug and unplug things. Not been to look yet but assuming the sockets are on a ring I was thinking of fitting patress boxes over the existing backboxes and connecting the original socket faces if they are ok onto all of those spuring off up to the new raised sockets in mini trunking so every socket efectivly has a spur coming from it. What do you think? Trying to keep it cheaper for her and that seems a lot easier than extending the rings up the wall and means if she moves out it would be simple to remove the raised sockets of someone wanted to and has the added advantage of mo not needing to worry about fitting rcds etc.
out of intrest, how will you be converting the existing sockets to surface mounted ones? i will needs to be doing the same thing in the future, had some good advive from people on here but thought i would ask.
