If I use 4mm SWA from the house CU to a garage CU 2m away from the house, does the SWA need 30mA RCD protection? (The garage CU has 30ma RCD with 16A + 6A MCB).

In short, do I need to RCD protect the SWA as well?

In short no and probably should not too to allow for diversity. Its not a final circuit but a distribution circuit.

What's a dance act from Britains Got Talent got to do with it?

But if its a TT system it will at least require a 100ma RCD on its own at the house end otherwise the mcb it is on may not break if someone puts a spade through the swa

If someone had'nt removed the clapping Smilie I'd have posted it here .Deke
