RCD Tripping randomly

Hi,

Got a customer whos rcd has tripped a few times in the last week. He says that it went randomly (not specifically when something was turned on) so could be fridge/freezer?

Where would you start?

Global IR? 1st

narrow it down, if you have a split board, global each side. then each individual circuit.

find the circuit it is on, unplug things one at a time and see for an improvement, if it it goes back to normal then that item is faulty, if all items are off circuit then you have a wiring fault.

IR, if low, unplug everything, try again. if still low, ID circuit

Do a quick check of the basics but usually it's an appliance so if you can;t find a fault with the installation get them tom unplug and turn off absolutely everything that's on the RCD and get them to note what is on when it happens.
