A recent solar panel installation. Inverter in the loft, cable run to distribution board which is also where the household CU is along with isolator switch and seperate RCD. There is also a meter installed as part of the PV installation. The solar ouput is connected in before the main electricity suppliers meter which is also on the distribution board. To work correctly shouldn't the solar ouput be connected to the CU after the main electricity suppliers meter? (Solar live is connected immediately after main line input fuse with nuetral same.)

eerrr, yes, I think,

you should have the suppliers fuse, and then your electric meter,

only after that are you ALLOWED to connect anything,

not only is what you describe illegal, it is also costing you a great deal of money, you 'may' well be paying for any of the solar electric that you proiduce that you actually use.....

have you any pictures?

this sounds truly shocking.

ps, your solar should NOT [normally] be connected directly to your normal household consumer unit.

Nice, pay for leccy generated instead of getting it free. If you are a sparky alter immediately, if not, get a sparky to alter immediately, or drag back winker what installed it

You can just make out the cables from solar connecting into the connector blocks on the left of the storage heater fuse box. There are two cable head fuses below this. One is the main supply for next door. Is the solar connected good or bad? I don't think it is correct.

I cant open 90% of the attachments people post (including these). Is it just me & why does it happen. Is it because they are trying to link to a pic on there own pc rather than a hosting site ?

Dont worry after Sunday attachments will be fixed - You will just have lots more to moan about with all the new surroundings and decorating

Wouldn't pass hot wire test as a suitable enclosure, but that is choice of home owner. I merely point this out as an advisory, not OMG you're all going to die a horrible death, unlike some sparks I know....

I recon the old wooden Wylex Standard range would out perform any new insulated consumer unit in a hot wire test.

Whats the second main fuse for, looks like a split con cable that may be going to another flat ?

thats totally wrong ,

what evidence do you have?

do YOU have, not hearsay.

View attachment 4281Black cable takes the supply into next door. Terraced houses. They blew the cable head fuse for their supply and electricity company came knocking our door to get in to fix it. They said if necessary they could break in!

What's the best option? Get someone to rewire into more suitable point? Main CU at the top of picture has no empty spaces.

If its totaly wrong why don't we use wooden enclosures anymore???? as for the evidence, if you think I'm so wrong you prove how a wooden enclosure passes test then Steps. And no, my opinion is not based on hearsay.

The meter was replaced as part of suppliers calibration routine no issues were raised with the backing board then. It's been there since the ehhh... 60s maybe seems to work fine!

not on about the meter, it's the old fuseboard with wooden back frame I'm on about. Definetly been there a while :^O . If nothing else it would be advisable to check the tightness of all the connections in the unit - please don't do this unless you are experienced in electrical things.
