On a ring main with say 4 sockets on and a switched fused spur off one of these sockets a single 2.5 to it obviously there would be 3 cables at a socket where the spur is coming off.Where am I going to get my highest reading of r1+r2? Is it likely to be the spur or a socket?ryan

Hi rb

Well the longer the circuit the higher the resistance, so on that basis where will the highest reading be?

Yes it's likely the spur will give you the highest R1 + R2 depending on how long the run (from the nearest socket on the ring ) is. The R1 + R2 from the sockets on the ring, however, should be in the region of your end to end live (r1) + cpc (r2) divided by 4.

It is possible with a long ring circuit and a short spur off one of the sockets nearest the CU for the highest R1+R2 to be on the ring not on the spur branch. But as a general rule of thumb the higher values tend to be at the end of the spurs.

quite correct Doc,

will be very dependant on the positioning of your spur in relation to the RF outlet points.
