Ring Mains

I have had a spur from a ring main  for a good few years this has been no bother at all.I am selling my house and have been mulling over any problems i might have 1 thing that has been done to my electrics by a contract electrician is the before mentioned spur.

It feeds 2 bedroom  wall lights i don't know what the cable size is but surmise it to be lighting size Is Should this have a fused spur?

And if so why .

You sure it's off the ring and not the lighting circuit, I cannot believe a proper electrician would wire lights off a ring main without a FCU.

yes it need to be protected by a FCU (fuse connection unit). the lighting cable can not carry the same ampage as a power circuit cable. it needs to be used down to protect the cable...

It probably should have been if the cable size is smaller than the ring main cabling. It might depend on the size of the ring circuit over current protection device, more info is needed.

Yes it is from the sockets ring main  .

I appreciate the early replies as you have all gathered i am not a electrician and will not be taking any action myself.

Sounds like a job for find a trade and very soon thanks again for early replies

i have checked the consumer unit it has a 32 amp showing for the power sockets

After information from this forum i have had a proper electrician sort out my fused spur issue.

The fused spur is 5 amp when the ring main is loaded why does this not blow.

I assume because the load (your wall lights) is whats connected to the load terminals on FCU, which the 5A part, not the Mains in terminals which is your 32A back at the fuseboard.
