just bought a robin kts 1610 of ebay the continuity works ok but when it comes to insulation im only getting a reading of 1M with leads open and what ever circuit under test short the leads out it reads 0 as expected so would getting the meter calibrated help or just put it in the bin

Since you bought it from ebay, you are protected by ebay buyer protection policies.

so if it's "not as described" you are entitled to a refund of the purchase price and postage.

I would say it's faulty not just needing calibration.

In addition to what ProDave said....

what was your reason for buying the tester in the first place..?

if it is for any "proper" professional use..

i.e as part of your trade or business..?

If yes then surely you would have needed it calibrated anyway??

Do you have a check box you can test it against values other than just short circuit and open circuit...?

Are the leads OK ..?

e.g.  do you have another set of known good leads you can test it with????

Why did the seller say they were selling it???

oh...

nearly forgot..

Welcome to the forumbulator..
