whats the best way to get rust marks from van paintwork? (paint is fine, its rust marks from a bit of rusty steel used to cover a lock hole thats gone onto the paint)

T-Cut or similar product (Halfords do a 'Paint Restorer')

You could try toothpaste before lashing out on a bottle of T-Cut - it's mildly abrasive and actually makes an excellent windscreen cleaner too.

Careful with T-cut if its a modern van, some modern paints dont take too kindly to the stuff. Make sure you do a test in an inconspicuous area first.

Personally Id try Autoglym Resin Polish (red label) works for most things

T-Cut and similar products have long since been reformulated for water based paints, but check the label anyway if your van has water based paint as you can still buy the original stuff.

The Autoglym is a superb product, but expensive if you're just looking to remove a few marks.

Also don't forget to reapply a polish layer after treatment with any 'paint restorer'.
