Gota bit stuck in the chuck today pushed down but refused to fully engage and now wont come out, anyone got any ideas or am i looking at a new drill its a Bosch GBH2400.

hold the chuck back to release, use on hammer only. facing down. may be enough to dislodge it

failing that, take the chuck apart and get the bearing out. then try with hammer only again

failing that, try some adhesive on the bit you have, let it set and try pulling it out that way (dont use too much though)

actually, scrap that, i thought you meant snapped

anyway, try taking the chuck apart and getting the bearing out - may be that whats got it stuck

Will have a crack tommorrow think i might cut it down to size abit too 1M bits kinda unweildy

I have helpfully turned many a 1m sds bit into 2 x500mm bits ;)

As above, all is not necessarily lost Ive sorted a jammed bit out meself by taking the chuck apart, however it may be indicative that the chuck is on its way out and mebbe time to invest in anew one

took the chuck apart and its firmly jammed in the tool holder was never seated properly sorta like the shank of the bit is slightly too wide, afaik i had used 2 other bits that day both went in fine and came out fine. Wonder if i can hold the company that sold the drill bit liable??

I get this sometimes, soak chuck with wd40 then leave for 20 mins then soak agian then get drill in vice get someone to pull back chuck release then clamp mole grips to drill bit and hit grips with hammer, if no joy respray with wd and repeat process

Good luck

When, and ONLY when the bit is out and the chuck assembly clean apply some lithium molybdenum disulphide grease to the bit where it goes into the chuck and see how you get on. Do it a few times and it should transfer to the inside of the chuck. Lithium moly grease won't rot the rubber cowl on the chuck BUT some other greases will. This is the grease that is used inside the car cv joint under the (rubber) cv gaiter. You should be able to pop down to your local motor factor or Halfords and get some.

Oh, and have a rag handy.........

I had this, I took it to a tool shop and it was out in 2mins.

The ends of sds bits get splayed out as they get worn by the hammer action! So I was told

Id be less annoyed if it wasnt a brand new bit thats never been in contact with the hammer....

... lithium molybdenum disulphide grease ...
Lithium soap grease is your common or garden NGLI2 / EP2 "brown" grease, other types are available

MoS2 grease is the thick black grease used in C.V. joints, they are different materials.

Please don't confuse the two.

MoS2 grease is the one, or "Copaslip" in/on your SDS chuck, also use the cleaning cloth to clean your bits before fitting them to the chuck.

They are both very extreme pressure high temperature greases, believe it or not the inside of an SDS chuck is quite an arduous environment.

I dont know about the other, but what Ive found with copaslip is, a little goes a long way, so less mess/splatter etc, plus, I already have it in the garage, :)

+1. The general purpose greases can just "cook". Often the cv stuff is termed "Lith-Moly" so a lithium based grease with added moly. I have a tin from Halfords, this one:

Halfords | Comma CV & Lith-Moly Grease 500g

I suppose I should now go grease the Makita as I remember that was getting a bit sticky to get the bits out when hot, last time I used it!

oh, 'comma' run away, very fast!

saying that, its probably spot on for normal use, so I shouldnt really knock it.

but, looking at that link, its not even that cheap either!

but, if you dont use much then its alright for the price/size of tub/ease of getting it.
