I have a cleint that has 10mm tails in really bad shape. I told my client that they need to get replaced asap.

They contacted the DNO, and the guy came out to change them. he took one look at the head and said that he can not do it..

it has taken my clients a further 5-6 days teying to get through to the right department. Now they will chnage the tails, but when the client to pay for a new service head...

at the moment it is fused at 60a.

They have recently has solar panels installed (3.95Kw) and all new electric heating fitted through-out.

My client contacted me today asking if the 60a HRC is big enough with all the additional loads.

I would have though that the DNO would change the head free on charge as it belongs to them... Ihave no idea what they are going to charge them...

what are your thoughts?

Head is DNO responsibility.

(Full stop)

Remind them of ESQCR, and if all else fails tell them that it seems the head is overheating and melting and smells like it is on fire, they'll be there like a shot & change it.

They have to, because if it does burn the house down & kill someone, (Lord forbid) it is their responsibility.

Their kit, their responsibility, their liability.

If they want to charge get a price & then tell them you'll do it cheaper, and see what they say, if they say its theirs you can't then they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Who is the DNO?

EMAIL them don't just phone them. Bet it's EDF supply and UKPN as the DNO!

They should not be charging them , service head is THEIR equipment , if its in a bad state its down to them  not the houseowner .

The only thing I can think of  that would be chargable is if you asked them to re-site the head & incomming cable .

You now what, how's this for a difference in DNO's.

On the 22nd of Nov. I have a line team coming to a property to inspect the lines back to the local transformer because I have asked for a possible service change, long story.

All FOC.

Had the phone call today to arrange it, the lines team leader will ring me when he leaves the depot to meet me there.

WPD for you.

Can't fault them TBH.

As I have said before, this is the issue when your DNO is NOT your energy provider.

You will find the DNO won't talk to the customer, and the energy supplier seems unwilling or unable to pass the problem on to the DNO.

Forget the pussy footing about asking nicely.

First Matt needs to issue an electrical danger notice, stating clearly that the head and tails are dangerous, and stick it to the supply head.

then the customer should phone the dno, supplier, or whatever number he can find on his bill for reporting DANGEROUS conditions.

Don't beat about the bush, just tell them it's DANGEROUS and needs urgent repair.

The operative that attends will see the EDN and will by law have to act on it.

EDN isnt law, so even if you leave one they still dont have to act on it by law

but still, if its dangerous phone DNO on emergency number and tell them. only time you should have to pay is if you want the work done, i.e to upgrade to larger supply or move it etc

and just because its 10mm tails doesnt mean the head is dangerous and needs replaced

Maybe just needs a fuse change and new tails rather than the head changed? Sounds like a job for.....................

:coat

I think changing the tails between the head and the meter is outside Amelie's normal remit.

I've known her change the tails from the meter to the CU, but not on the input to the meter.

WPD - my local bunch have always been really helpful. I even had one of the local team pop into the office the other day to discuss a PV installation in person. Kev, you are a star :Applaud :Applaud :Applaud :Applaud

( didn't put full name in, in case he was being too helpful, when he should have been in his orifice).
