Shockwave is a mediaplayer that's closely related to Flash Player.....incestuously in fact because they're both from the adobe family. They both play media files for animations and advertisements etc and they'll run inside your browser to enhance your internet experience to levels far beyond your wildest dreams. Both applications are beautifully coded and I won't hear a bad word said about either of them,  :)

It's probably in the form of a browser plug-in who's primary function is to allow hackers, the NSA and script kiddies unlimited access into your PC and as a secondary function it allows various graphics and animated advertising banners to annoy you whilst you're viewing web pages.

It is the benchmark in sloppily written code, there's been a long list of security flaws with it even to this day which allow malicious code injection amongst other things. Every time Adobe patch a hole at least three new ones appear. I hate it with a passion, it's just a virus waiting to happen and it's the main reason I always run my browser sandboxed.

Looking on the bright side Adobe should be proud of themselves, it's been a full month and two days since their last round of Flash 'critical' updates. I'm sure Adobe will have you believe that this is because it's fixed and secure but I guarantee you it's because they're now scrambling to patch the latest gaping security holes in Acrobat. It might take a large number of monkeys and typewriters to recreate the works of Shakespeare by chance but it would only require about three to come up with a zero-day Flash virus.

Liked this post Marvo Just about sums it all up nicely :)

Shockwave (which used to be gif's with music) is integrated into chrome.

:)

I think the Shockwave plug-in comes bundled with the Flash plug-in in the same installer....which as far as security goes is like not only putting your front door key under your mat but also leaving the windows and doors wide open when you pop out to the shop.

It was a hair mousse popular in the 80's. Came in a purple can and smelt nice..............back when I had highlights................and hair!  :Blushing

Used to use it to make games and interactive stuff for websites in the early days of the internetz but then flash took over but for some unknown reason it was never integrated.

So there it is....... annoying the world :)
