Just a quick question,,, the answer may be longer;)

I have a client who has some flats. A while ago I replaced the CU and did some alterations in one of the flats while they were doing a renovation of the flat.

They have now almost finished (all decoration completed) and they want an electric shower installing:(

My problem is that I have nowhere to put an isolator switch except for in the airing cupboard which is in a bedroom backing onto the shower position... I cannot put a pull cord in (no access into ceiling void) and they do not want a plate switch outside the room.

I have thought of using a contactor operated by a pneumatic switch,, but would that be good enough for maintenance.... Or I could use a lockable rotary isolator in the airing cupboard..

Comments on my thoughts or other options welcome.

i have the same issue of a job i am quoting for. The client wants the electric shower rcd protected as it is for her elderly mother. at the mo the isolation switch is next to the cu. the only thing I can do is place the rcd cu next to the cu where the old isolation switch is. my question is do i need a second form of isolatio switch or is the rcd cu ok.

Are the devices in the CU not adequate for isolation?

It's not unusual to have an isolator in the airing cupboard if it backs onto bathroom. It is local and can generally be easily seen by the person undertaking maintenance, although I always isolate at the board as well.

The airing cupboard is at least 10' from the bathroom door and it would be another 8' from the shower

Consumer unit is 3' from the bathroom door, but it has now been nicely boxed in with very little spare room :shakehead

Sorry noz, misunderstood thought you meant that the airing cupboard backed onto bathroom, not opposite side of bedroom.

You could build a bigger cupboard around cu?

The only other option would be to label both cu and shower that isolation is at cu only.??

if you have no access to ceiling void could the pull cord butt up to the wall and use side entry for cable?
