Hi guys, I'm new to electrics and was just wondering if you could help me out with this circuit.

I'm trying to build a circuit that has two LEDs (one red, one green) and three switches. Two of the switches will be designated an LED (one switch for the red LED and one switch for the green LED) but i don't want them to light up when their switch has been pressed, i want the third switch to light whichever LED switch has been pressed last. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

so this is the scenario:

I press the green LED switch and it doesn't light up until press the 'power switch', it then lights up green, i then press the red LED switch and press the 'power switch' and it lights up red.

Thanks in advance!

if your wanting to press a 'push to make' switch rather than flick rockers then I would probably implement a simple latching relay. The 2 2 switches for the lights in fact switch the relay latching it one way or another. Say, running the -'ve through the relay contacts. Then the 3rd switch would simply complete the circuit with the +'ve.

But surely your circuit either needs the 2 decision switches to either be held in place as required or latching switches that would need to be released. A latching relay (technically doing the job of a flip flop) would 'hand over' from one to other.

but then your system doesn't have persistent memory. You walk away and when you come back neither is pressed, Also, you can quite easily have a situation where you have both lights one or none at all even when button 3 is pressed. My understanding was that the system should be 1 or the other.

TBH we need more info

Lets say yoy press red

and then power so you get the red light

What happens if you press the power button again?

Does the red light stay on or does it reset to off?
Hey guys, thanks for all your responses!

Sorry i didn't provide enough information, let me try to explain more clearly:

Ok so there's three switches and two LED's. One of the LED's is green, the other is red.

Two of the switches decide which LED will light up when the 'power switch' is pressed, once the power button has been pressed it doesn't reset, so say if i chose the red LED, pressed power, and then came back two days later it would still light up red when i pressed power again.

I don't want to have to turn off any switches, for example if i pressed the Red LED switch, didn't press power, then pressed the green LED switch, then pressed power, only the green LED would turn on.

Also the LED button can't be held down, so you're able operate it using one finger -- Press red LED button, Press Power = Red LED lights up, Let go of power button, Press green LED button, Press power = Green LED lights up, Let go of power button, Press power = Green LED. (this is probably obvious but just trying to be clear!)

Sorry if this is the wrong forum! I appreciate your help!

Thanks for your response!

Essentially that is the idea, but I want three individual buttons? Unless you can get two way switches that are separated in to two?

The problem you will have with using a watching relay in one position it will always consume a small amount of power,

this may not matter to the OP though.

Its probably the easiest way of doing it with 3 individual switches though.
