Hi everyone sorry for bothering i am a student in a university of Athens and i am having a problem with a sunny island inverter....so i have completed the installation of the inverter and the sunny boy as well...everything works fine but i am having a trouble with the utility grid...I want to use it only as charger for the batteries when the energy from the PV isn't much....do i need an automatic transfer switch for that or can it be done without it?

something else, how can i connect the measuring cables for the external voltage and for the batteries to?

I don't think anyone here will have experience of a Sunny Island Inverter  to be honest Kotsos .  

When did we last see the sun here in  UK  ...around August   last year  I think .

Maybe @binky could help ? 

You would need some kind of separation from the grid such as a transfer switch? 

Assuming a sunny island is similar to a powerwall? 

This is certainly not a sunny island.

sunny island inverters are off grid. I'll have a look later.

this should answer your questions..http://files.sma.de/dl/7910/SIGEN-13FE0914.pdf. As I understand it, these inverters have a battery charge controller built into them. If that's all you want it for, then don't connect it to the grid, just the batteries and it should sort itself out.
