why do smokes have a 10 year life?

is it because of the "stuff" inside that makes it work, maybe breaks down so becomes less reliable or something.

life safety product, routine replacement recomend after 10yrs, assuming where taking proper fire alarm you would record on the cert on every maint visit that heads are beyond the manufactures recomended life
