But they have said NVQ or equivalent, so it is still as clear as mud to Me.

Having just had a nosy at this, you need the NVQ3 to become Part P authorised, but how is that possible if you cant actually get the NVQ, this seems like another lash up that's going to cost thousands to become Part P qualified, ie Part P assessment + LABC notification + NVQ costs.

This was decided some time ago to be honest, there was loopholes in the original draft that had to be closed. The discussions as always would take time to sort out, many of these discussions are not even taken in person, but in a format similar to what we use here on the forum, once a part of the many problems appear to be at the point of resolve a meeting is convened to talk over all the relevant points, if agreed this resolution will be handed to a legal department, not only for any legal injustice and the like, but for correct wording so that when published it is in as plain English as possible, but with considerations to any available loop holes.

One of the many legal implications was that any new regulation must not contravene the human rights regulations, by denying those who practice a trade being unable by new regulation to carry on that work. This is why the new regulations will not effect those who are currently registered with a scheme, it will also not effect those who have been appointed the QS for any scheme within the last two years of the new regulations.

The date is also important, you can apply up to that date, without the requirement to satisfy the new regulations, it is only applicable to the applications made after that date.

There is a new NVQ3 starting in January that focuses on doemstic only. I told them this on the electricians forum but most wouldn't have it.

Its an NVQ3 for domestic only. Minus all the tray, baskets and metal trunking etc. A great idea. So one and for all we can get rid of the fast track routes.

The JIB are also bringing out a domestic electricians approved card. This new qualification is going to be needed to gain it!

This is the draft from JIB

Powered by Google Docs

Also from the NICEIC

NICEIC | About Us | Press Releases

Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings should be available from the 1st January 2012

Electricalserv,

I have seen those two, this is a different qualification, it is an NVQ3, I will try to dig out the info if I can find it!

It is directly related to QS's and does not just cover domestic, well at least the one I looked at did not!

Looks like I qualify for Domestic Electrician under the JIB document as it says Installation Electrician on my Gold Card!!! :^O ;)

Its defo a new NVQ3 qualification for people wanting to become a QS after january 1st. Its all changing no fast track route. you must now have a tech cert 2330/2360/the new one. And the take this new domestic NVQ3 and have a portfolio with pictures of your work and a couple of on-site assessments.

So its bye bye fast tracks!!!

mmmmmmm

just wondering if someone can tell me how I explain to ECS that I am an electrician then?

they reckon that without an NVQ3 Im not,.

funny though how NICEIC have no problems accepting me as a QS(even though Im not a spark!).

so you see, just yet another problem that probably wont go away.

Same problem here no NVQ3 mate JIB sent me a card saying senior graded electrical trainee because no NVQ3. LOL

I'm a fully qualified Napit QS. 17th Edition, 2391, 2330 level 2 & 3.

This new qual NVQ3 domestic is the same as the current NVQ3 but without the needless industrial and commercial tests such as installation of tray & basket amongst other things. its for all us domestic sparks to get an nvq3 that is on our own sector. You will need the level 3 2330/2360 tech cert to be allowed on the new qualification though.

I'm happy because it stops the non sparks becomin QS's with just the 17th edition - which is what goes on now. Its all getting stopped. No NVQ3 no QS after January 2012

I don't have an NVQ3 in electrical installations either!

It may just be the wording guys?

I must say I would have been VERY P1553D off if I had trainee!

Electricalserv,

How about posting a bit about yourself mate so we can get to know you?

Steps has started a thread somewhere, I'll go for a search and put a link in here in a bit...

Well let me introduce myself.

I'm a self employed Napit QS. Left school and did alot of jobs. Control panel apprentice, Window Fitter, Builders labourer, asda. Never stuck at any of them. Decided to go to college and got on the 2330 level 2. Worked for a company throughout level 2 the got sacked. (argument with boss) Jumped onto 2330 level 3 got a new job, new boss. Learnt alot with this firm was left to do rewires on my own so got loads of hands on experience. Made team leader, me and a couple of other lads doing 2 rewires a week. Sat 2382 then 2391 passed both. Decided I was going to go it alone as I was essentially running the firm on the ground whilst my boss watched over me.

In the end packed up my tools and joined Napit full scope. Been tradeing 3 months. Things are picking up after a slow start but I'm getting there. Oh I'm from merseyside!
