In the office again.
Mrs. KME & I each have an Ipod nano. One is 4th gen, one is 5th.

Both have the same problem - random reset (apple logo etc) whilst playing. Could be 2 songs, could be 10 ; usually 5 or 6.

I`ve been on Apple`s site - tried configuring as hard drives, doing the reset business.........no soddin` difference!!!!! :(

Anybody got a solution? Please?

KME

Done the hard reset mate - no difference.

They`re out of warranty - like a pillock, I didn`t know it was a fault - they`ve both always done it, and I thought it was supposed to.......DUH I`m thick (TOTD methinks).

So they`re duff. I hoped that, being both affected, there`d be a common issue than can be resolved - looks like its either put up with it, or replace `em!

Thanks anyway. n.b. Thanks rev. ; I don`t have bluetooth on either of `em, to my knowledge.

Nozzer: reflash maybe an idea........I`ll try that later on, and see what gives :)

Only one question. What's the fascination with ipods. My wife has one, and I can't see the attractions:

Ipod.

You can ONLY use itunes to download music to the ipod

You CAN'T copy music FROM the ipod to your computer

Expensive.

Other Generic MP3 player:

Appears to the PC as just a USB hard drive. Can copy music in any format to AND from the player just using windows explorer or any other software I choose.

Cheap.

About the ONLY reason I can think, why anyone would choose an ipod over any other MP3/4 player is the "ipod dock" facility. That's why Mrs PD has one, so it can plug into a little mini hi fi system and the hi fi's own remote control then controls the ipod.

But if you just want something in your pocket to listen to music on, the very last thing I would buy is an ipod. I would settle for the cheap MP3 player I have that does not lock you into one particular, and very inflexible software package to load music onto it, and does let you copy music from it to the PC.

Comments please, because I just can't see the attraction of an ipod.

P.S. The ipod we have was one I bought cheap from ebay as faulty. It was completely dead. But simply opening it up, unplugging and re connecting the internal battery restored it to working. I guess it had just crashed, and needed a proper cold re boot to get it going again.

Just for correction, although iTunes is what most folks use you can use other non apple software to get your music to/from your ipod including backing up etc
Tell me more please. there's some music on the ipod from the previous owner, and I want to copy it to my PC (and my own MP3 player)

canoe, I dont have any rotten apples, ;) but my missus's friends son has one and I got it to work on my PC just using rythmnbox and its fine,

was going to try gtkpod tho if that hadnt worked.

there are loads for ubuntu, but a lot of them depend on what gen the ipod is or whether or not it has been rooted/jailbroke.

Well me a Deke are both a bit slow and haven't got up to date with Iplods and Muppett3 players...

But we were both thinking of chipping a few squids together to buy a Sony Walkman to share,

so we can listen to our cassette tapes...

just been recording some vinyl onto cassette tape.. its very clever you know...!!!!!

you blokes are just to modern and high testicle for me!!! :Blushing :( :C :coat

Kayak-kid: That works: I`ve reset the 5th gen, and written one CD straight to it - it plays 100% ok........

So, that suggests I have one (or more) dodgy tracks in my list, that the `pod doesn`t like.

Is there an easy way to find out which? (I`ve got over 5000 tracks in my audio library).

i dont bother with ipods either. or anything apple

for mp3 player, i use my old nokia 6300. main advantage is the battery is removeable. so can easily take spares (i keep forgetting to charge it unless its dead)

Are they all the same format ? or have you got one or two rogue ones that are a different format ?I use AAC which doesnt seem to suffer as much from corrupt files as mp3

Try this to scan your files

MP3val - home page

Edit: Its open source so steps will like it, has a windows front end but also command line so you may need steps help :run
:C

OMG!!!

Kayak-kid: You is Da`Man :) :) :) According to that little sexy bit of kit; 85% of the mp3s had issues; all bar one resolved (one file it simply refused to even scan - just stuck there. Not frozen, just stuck).

So we`ll try re-loading the ipods, and hopefully the problem is sorted. Thank you, ooodles

I know this.....I named `em, eh??? (doesn`t the avatar mean ANYTHING??????)

You`ve already had one, and are in the process of getting another

(grannies and eggs boyo - grannies & eggs).
