After reading Binky's post about Solar PV watches I thought I would get involved and share some of the experiences I've had so far with PV installers.

Not being an installer I can't really comment on the actual installations, but being the one selling the equipment I thought I might have something to offer.

Mike,

Not a shameless plug at all you are a forum sponsor mate, you pay for your advertising, you always try to support the forum and it's members so you are IMHO entitled to put a few plugs in, you are not after all hiding who you are!

Seems to be a lot of "solar" test equipment popping up now which looks very much as it did a few years ago but somehow if you stick a multimeter and a clamp meter together it is now a "solar test kit" What about insulation testing or the fact that you need to short out the string to measure Is/c or insulation - surely a real "solar" tester would do this as part of the test?

And while I'm on my hobby horse.... irradiance meters... the SAP tables are based on irradiance AND compass direction AND roof angle. Unless you know the direction your pointing the irradiance meter and the angle its at then the readings are meaningless. A proper meter should tell me all these things when I'm doing a site survey - why don't they clag a spirit level and a compass onto the irradiance meter :D
