Here at TEF we do like to help, but please be aware that just because something is electric does not mean anyone here can tell you how to repair it, or what it is or what it is for.

Example1:
You are viewing houses to purchase, there is an odd electrical switch on the wall, you want to ask what it is for, sorry as it is a switch there is no way we can tell you what it controls, instead I suggest you get an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) carried out, this will not only establish what the switch is for, it will also tell you the condition of the premises electrical system. An EICR is not cheap, and should take a day, but it will be well worth it.

Example 2:
You have a machine/device/appliance that has worked for years, it has now stopped, or does not do everything it did. We can try to advise, but you will need some test equipment to establish what is causing the issue. It has been shown that changing parts at "random" is expensive and often is fruitless. In today's age appliances in particular need a specialist to repair them, not an electrician.

Example 3:
You want to change a ceiling light, you take it down and find you have 9 wires, none of the wires have coloured sleeving or tape, and you want to know how to connect your new light. Again you will need a means of testing to establish which wire is what. Before you take the light down, take a clear in focus picture (Do check) before you do anything else, then we may be able to help.

We are a friendly bunch, sorry we could not help with your question this time.
