this is what you call a substation fire. The fire was caused by a fault in a 132/33KV transformer. Fire brigade not happy about squirting liquid foam around in a 132KV sub so whole lot had to go off. I was called in that night as there was a big job on to try an re start everything.

They certainly go with a bang. The one up the road from me went quite a few years back and the bang is the thing I remember about it.

Talking of the oil.......

one of the great eco disasters that never gets mentioned is that in the 1920s they developed a new type of cooling oil for big trannies called PCB. In the 1980s they finally admitted it was really bad for the environment/ people and decided to destroy it. It was always catalogued out and on return so they could trace every drop of it. Unfortunately 20% of it "disappeared" and is now in the foodchain, such as fish and of course YOU! They knew for years it was a great cancer causer but stalled on dealing with it.....

So who knew about this then?

PCB bad news :(

the ammount of precations we take when even entering a sub with it in.

although all subs at least in the midlands are covererd in signage to say of there being pcb there, this even includes if it was there in the past and possible contamnation within the soil ect.
