switched fuse at supply

hi, why is a switched fuse necessary at the supply end rather than the just before the distrribution board when the tails travel for some distance.

Hi, If you did the cable calcs and sized your cable to suit the suppliers fuse, then it would [the suppliers fuse protect your cable that is!]

Trouble is, the DNO would not like this because, so far as they are concerned, it is THEIR fuse to protect THEIR service cable and the meter, so you can jolly well go and buy your own!!!

Not very helpful of them, but there you are!! Still, i suppose it is much the same way you would feel if you lived on a hill, and your neighbour, instead of fixing the handbrake on his own car, preferred to rest his car up against yours in order to stop it running away during the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!

er.... for the same reason as you put the DB at start of the circuits. when was the last time you wired a cooker with cable directly to main switch, then an MCB just before the cooker?
