Just had a customer phone me up with a problem they are having with their telephone...

A few months ago I installed a second socket in their bedroom and moved their existing phone to it,, it worked ok; however they have since bought another phone and connected it in their living room.

Now they get a sort of interrupted "Norman Wisdom" like conversation but they also get the radio on the phone if it is on in another room,, it's not just background noise its like they've got it at setting 11 and are trying to have a conversation in the same room!!

Any ideas anyone?

I havent heard 'the radio fault' for years. It used to be Capitol radio before the Am & FM went different ways. Alas i cant remember what caused it. Seem to remember it may be something to do with a loop in the circuit and the bell (term 3) not connected

Swap the phones over

do you know what make the new one is ????? could be an inherrent issue discussed on telecomm forums

BT //// Virgin ?????

have you got a spare phone in your van you could use ??

I'm going back tomorrow so hopefully I should be able to sort it out then.. I know for a fact that 2, 3 & 5 are connected, however there might be a loop of slack cable in the loft.

From what I can gather, the radio fault goes away when his radio is off; also the faults are only on the master socket/phone

The radio fault from years ago was nothing to do with a radio being close by. It was something to do with a loop in the wiring and the frequency induced which always made Londons Capitol radio heard in the background. From your description above i would check the phone is breaking all contacts when the receiver is replaced. It may be leaving the mic connected

Norman COLLIER not Wisdom!..

Had same fault on a serial printer eons ago. Printed gibberish at set times during the day, narrowed it down to the piped music being switched on and off at brew/lunch/home time. Signal induced into unused cores. it was about 6 coloured cores each paired with a black core. They had not used the black cores and just left them hanging. Grounded them all and problem went away

....other than that I cannot really help you......... :coat

Just been there this morning and sorted it out....

The guy had bought a phone that had a "handsfree" option, he listens to the radio all day and when he gets a phone call he just gets up from his chair, goes over to his phone and answers his phone using the "handsfree" button... If he has a problem then he goes into the bedroom and picks it up there (whilst leaving it picked up handsfree in the living room)

It's no suprise that he's having these problems bless him,,, he doesn't understand how it works
