Biggest change i have seen in a long time. Lights i installed 3 years ago i cannot replace easily and cheaply, OK if just one or two but not when there are 40 odd , lol

The printer I look after has said don't do anymore lighting maintenance ....replace with LED equivalent .

Theres a lot of  recessed 1200 X  600 X 4 tube fittings  there .    In the general area a 40W  LED 600 x 600 slim  is replacing them  @ £35 ea

Its around £12  for new tubes 7 starters. plus time to wash the flat sheet, so I think they're on the right track there.     Eventually of course , my maintenance visits will drop to zero but  C'est a vie Mon aime

Ha ha, fear not, i am already replacing LED panels and lamps, not many but enough to keep me in wine and fags, lol

Really !!!  You're replacing already !     How long have they been in service ?

I ask because these are on 16 hours a day .

I still have to decide on the Print Room lights because of the temperature in there , specially in the summer .  This weather should settle it TBH .    There are 5ft  X twin fluorescents in there ......I've only fitted one LED version because the temperature goes well above the manufacturer's recommendation with the print driers on . They have preset cut-outs to protect the electronics ..............my concerns were the lights shutting off on temp.rise during late shift ,  the emergency lights wouldn't kick in .

lots of duff LED stuff around. I'm fairly convinced that apart from duff quality of many products, that voltage spikes can trash LED? Maybe that's part of being a duff poduct design??

I believe that the expected lifetime they  give in hours refers to light output & efficiency .       The lamp life on these is given as 35000 hrs .  In the case of the printers thats 7 years .     Nowhere near the life of  old fluorescents except there will be NO maintenance costs,  more light output  and a massive saving in running costs .

Well, the diodes themselves will be fine but the things that fail are drivers and/or power supplies.

Oh, surprised at that, but then I suppose it depends on the manufacturer and where the diodes come from. Either that, or I have just been lucky (unlikely)!

I am replacing ones that have failed well below their expected life, i dont believe its a function of how long they are on, more the manufacturer / batch.

I did have to giggle when the local wholesaler converted the trade counter to 600X600 panels and around 40% have failed in a couple of months. I also know they have moved from a supplier recently because of high failure rates, all under warranty of course...
