I am fitting some smoke alarms for a customer who owns "the house that jack built" (self build by DIYer).

There was a spare way in the CU which is a Hagar. But when I opened it up I found that the terminal screws for the spare way had been removed on both the earth and neutral blocks. X(

The idiot that wired it had probably put them away "somewhere safe"

can anyone tell me where I can obtain some terminal screws?

No easy way.

Whenever I do a CU change I keep a few of the terminal screws and some other bits of hardware. Result is I have a box of odd screws and things that often solve this sort of problem. That won't help you on this occasions, but perhaps you should build up a box of goodies like that for next time.

I also keep a few terminal screws from sockets, switches etc for the same reason.

You could for this job have a look and see if any of the terminal screws in any of the sockets, FCU's etc you carry might fit.

And old cu you have recently taken out. I have some if you want me to pop some in an envelope send me your address. It isnt a hagar cu but may fit.

Hager sell terminal blocks so you could buy one through a wholesaler. I have an old hager board which is probably about 6 years old so if you pm me I could send you a couple through the post.

I have a tray in my tool box which I keep things like terminal screws salvaged from equipment that has been removed and have proved to be a real time saver .

now you know why they were missing :)
Oops. I should have made that clear.

I keep a selection of bits from the OLD CU that I'm removing. I always leave the new CU with a full complement of parts and screws.

A terminal screw problem sounds far more serious than it actually is :D

terminal: Disease that cannot be cured and will cause death.
